The Bank for International Settlements (BIS)

The BIS is an international organization fostering the cooperation of central banks and

international financial institutions. The site has several different types of papers on international banking issues like policy papers, working papers, and economic papers regarding payment and settlement, international banking supervision, and financial systems.


The Federation of International Trade Associations

A network of 300,000 companies belonging to 300 trade associations in the US, Canada and Mexico.


Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO)

Includes stats, database, magazine, archives, and resources. Database on agriculture includes ten main subjects such as legislation, economy and development (includes trade), plant science and production, plant protection, post harvest technology, animal science, production and protection, agricultural machinery and engineering, natural resources and environment, processing of agricultural products, and pollution. The database on economics includes stats, commodities and trade, economic studies, food security, nutrition, food quality, global perspectives and stats databases. The fisheries database includes information on resources, production, trade, management, environment, socio-economics, stats, publications, library, meetings, regional offices, and statutory bodies. The forestry database includes information by country, subject, structure and mission, publications, databases and site maps. The nutrition database includes information on food nutrition and agriculture review, Codes Aliementarius Commission, JECFA, food composition, nutrition, education, nutrition requirements, household food security, food control, nutrition assessment, international conference on nutrition, food and nutrition data, and publications. The database on sustainable development includes information on women and population, participation, institutions, land tenure, rural administration and cooperatives, energy, environment, information policy, planning and management, research and technology, extension and education and communication.


International Labor Organization

Contains information regarding labor standards and human rights. Databases with public information and publications.


International Organization for Migration (IOM)

The site is dedicated to publishing information regarding human trafficking, migration movements, and technical assistance available for migration issues.


International Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO)

This site is dedicated to technical committees and ad-hoc working groups that evaluate the impact on investors, intermediaries, markets and regulators of the developments in technology and Internet stocks. Some of the activities advertised on this site are IOSCO organized annual conferences and a documents file.


International Organization for Standardization (ISO)

The standards and world trade section of this site looks at the WTO and the ISO and their common goals. This part of the site also has information from the Agreement on the Technical Barriers to Trade which established the rules on standards. There is also information on the Sanitary and Phytosanitary issues regarding standardization and then further information on all topics that is part of the workshops page.


Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA)

This site is organized by the UN and it looks at the financial contributions and tracking for natural disasters and other emergencies. The site also has country information that shows UN emergency reports and field coordination efforts.


Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)

This site contains information regarding development/co-operation, including the Development Centre, and the Development Assistance Committee. It also addresses relations with non-members, economics and long term analysis (including the economics department and international futures programme), education, employment, labor social affairs, energy (including the international energy agency, nuclear energy agency), environment issues, finance, investment, taxation and competition (as well as OECD principles of corporate governance, e-commerce, regulatory reform, aging society, sustainable development, transport, trade, territorial development, stats, science, technology and industry, public management, initiatives, corruption, money laundering, food, agriculture and fisheries, current issues- news releases, and upcoming events. Also inlcuded are OECD news releases, upcoming events, publications, monthly statistics, speeches, observer magazine and policy briefs.


UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD)

Includes information about the organization, events and meetings, technical co-operation, guide to publications, press and reference items, related links. Includes information on the General System of Preferences (GSP), trade, environment and development, international investment agreements, positive agenda, e-commerce and development, greenhouse gas emissions and trade, LDC’s, multi-modal transport, UNCTAD and NGO’s, poverty alleviation, TRAINS (Trade Analysis & Information System), The biotrade initiative, competition law and policy, division on investment, technology and enterprise- development, debt management, investment promotion agencies, Trade Point Development Centre, Non-governmental liaison services, ASYCUDA.


Union of International Associations (UIA)

This site is a agglomerate of several hundred sites that are part of the UIA. The site is divided by profiles, projects, and products and then cross listed with each other based on overlying areas.


United Nations Development Project (UNDP)

The site focus areas on poverty, gender, environment, and governance. Access to UN systems, such as the UN web site locator, UN bookmarks, and UN agency information and permanent missions.


United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP)

The site includes links to environmental and sustainable development sites, official UN documents, UNON, UN around the world, environmental issues, state of the global environment, products, services, countries, regions, conventions, calendar, and events


United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCR)

This UN organization looks at human rights abuses ranging from racism to genital defiguration. There are committees that look at these issues and make decisions. Their decisions and research are available on the site.


United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR)

Contains UNITAR statutes, staff reports, publications, Board of trustees, information regarding communication technologies, peacemaking and preventive diplomacy programmes, debt, economic and financial management, foreign economic relations, international affairs management, applications and environmental law, chemcials and waste management, climate change, decentralized cooperation and international migration policy.


World Bank

Explains the mandate of the bank, brief country descriptions with country data and country assistance strategies. 1999 annual report, information on regions, countries, topics and sectors. School and teachers, development forum, NGO’s and civil society, speeches, on-line bookstore, data, maps, operations and policies. Business and private sector and research. Development framework, news, speeches and events. These topics include anti-corruption, economics, education, energy, environment, financial sector, gender, health, nutrition and population, informatics, telecommunications, labor, social protection, law, development, mining, participation, poverty reduction, public sector, private sector development, rural development, agriculture, social development, transport, urban development, water supply and sanitation, non-governmental organizations and civil society, government procurement, project financing tools, risk management tools, financing for small and medium enterprises, advisory services, investment marketing services (IMS), information services, learning programs.


World Bank/WTO Trade and Development Center

This organization is part of the WTO and is made up of member countries trying to form agreements on how to bring trade to the lesser developed members. Some of the issues that this group looks at are technical assistance and training courses. The site is complete with several different documents that look at the spread of trade and the effects in LDC nations.


World Economic Forum

The sites includes information regarding the annual meeting, regional networks, events, reports and publications, members and latest news about constitutents, centres, projects and media centre.


World Health Organization (WHO)


World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)

Available: Information center for women inventors, conference on Intellectual Property, building project, e-commerce, arbitration, information technology (SCIT) library, PCT system, and press releases.


World Trade Organization (WTO)

The site provides current trade news, information on trade disputes, country profiles, current WTO issues and events, and historical information on the multilateral trading system from the GATT to the WTO.
