Amnesty International

Amnesty International is a worldwide campaigning movement that works to promote all the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international standards. In particular, Amnesty International campaigns to free all prisoners of conscience; ensure fair and prompt trials for political prisoners; abolish the death penalty, torture and other cruel treatment of prisoners; end political killings and "disappearances"; and oppose human rights abuses by opposition groups.

The website publishes reports on human rights violations throughout the world and serves as an information center for HR issues.

 

Caribbean/Latin America Action (C/LAA)

This organization, which promotes private sector development in the Caribbean basin, has a site that allows companies to gather information on the basin for their future business investments. There is a part with the publications on the Basin and the statistics and the economic relationship it has with other developed areas. There is also information on projects and activities, and a public and private forum listing all the projects working in those sectors.

The Centre for International Human Rights law is a non-governmental organization dedicated to protecting the rights of its clients, and to advancing the development of international human rights caselaw.

The site maintains a list of publications and briefs relating to human rights law, a very comprehensive guide to researching international human rights law, a resource center for research into HR law, links to HR treaties and general research resources.

 

Crimes of War Project

The Crimes of War Project is a collaboration of journalists, lawyers and scholars that seeks to raise awareness of the laws of war among the media, governments, the human rights and humanitarian aid communities, and the general public.

This site contains essays, publications, a glossary, and a list of links to organizations that deal with Crimes of War.

 

Foundation for International Environmental Law & Development (FIELD)

FIELD is an NGO dedicated to using the law to promote environmental and development issues. It is also a research institution under the umbrella of the Law Department of the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) University of London. It offers links to issues of Climate, Trade and the Environment, and Sustainable Development, as well as brief descriptions of those issues.

A worldwide NGO dedicated to environmental protection. The web site offers updates on its activities, links to its offices worldwide and other related web sites. Its "Information and Education" section has a long list of links to environmental information resources.

International Federation of Alternative Trade

International Federation for Alternative Trade (IFAT) is a federation of producers and "alternative" trading organizations (ATOs) that aims to improve the livelihood and well being of disadvantaged people in developing countries; and to change "unfair" structures of international trade. The site has sections with a definition of "fair trade," a "fair trade" bibliography, a "fair trade" resource center, and links to related sites.

The WWF is a large independent conservation organization. The web site maintains sections for related publications, country profiles, a green web directory, current campaigns, and an expert database.
